Compliance Standards

CSA, UL ETL

All Hôpitel in-patient room displays, and remote-control devices have acquired a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTL) certification which include but are not limited to: CSA, UL and ETL. These NRTLs are in place to provide independent safety and quality certifications on products. All Hôpitel Patient Bedside TV Media Terminals and system components are CSA C22.2 NO UL-60601 certified or equivalent.

PHIPA, HIPAA & CIHI

In keeping with PHIPA, HIPAA privacy regulations and the CIHI governance on Canadian Privacy and Security of Health Information policies at no time is patient privacy at risk of being compromised as personal patient health information is never stored in the Hôpitel or PatientLogix Anywhere Access systems. As Hôpitel does not collect any personal patient health information it adheres to PHIPA, The Personal Health Information Protection Act which sets out rules for the collection, use and disclosure of personal health information.

PatientLogix Anywhere Access utilizes anonymous data; for in-hospital use the system associates the hospital facility code, room, and bed number with a video prescription for a patient. The anonymous data can be correlated and pulled by the hospital into the hospital’s ADT system to reference the patient and log their health education video prescriptions, viewing history and questionnaire results into the patient’s medical record. The anonymous data is stored on the PatientLogix Cloud which is compliant to PHIPA and HIPAA standards and procedures via the Microsoft Azure Cloud platform. All the information related to health education video prescriptions, viewing history and questionnaire results is retrieved from an Azure SQL database and WCF service hosted in the Azure Cloud. A certificate is required to be installed on each media terminal to access the WCF service. It is not possible to acquire access to this WCF service without access to a certificate.

To help facilitate the complete continuum of health education for patients the PatientLogix system has an Anywhere Access feature which is a tool that permits clinicians to provide patients access to PatientLogix prescribed health education media, follow-up questionnaires and surveys even if they are not admitted in the hospital or located in a patient room not equipped with a terminal. The patient only requires an email address, smart phone, or media device with an internet connection to receive their PatientLogix Anywhere Access prescriptions. The hospital can manage the access of the Anywhere Access prescriptions in the same manner as prescriptions prescribed to patients in a patient room.

JCAHO, HCAHPS, HIPAA, Accreditation Canada

The PatientLogix Anywhere Access solution can be a vital tool for healthcare institutions to collect, measure and report on patient Health Education comprehension and Patient Satisfaction levels thus assisting them to comply with national standards such as JCAHO and HCAHPS and to benchmark performance and quality measures with other facilities statewide and nationally in the US. Similar compliance standards are being instituted by the Canadian and Provincial governments across Canada via Accreditation Canada and other organizations.

The Hôpitel and PatientLogix systems although cost-effective, provide features typically found in more complex and costly solutions. At no time is patient privacy at risk of being compromised as personal patient health information is never stored in either system and the anonymous data stored on the Hôpitel, and PatientLogix Cloud is compliant to HIPAA standards and procedures via the Microsoft Azure Cloud platform.

PIPEDA

Hôpitel abides by the ground rules of PIPEDA for how it manages personal information during its commercial activities. Hôpitel is transparent during the collection process when obtaining this information and explain why it's collected and how the organization will use it.
