August 22nd 2013 How Using PatientLogix™ Impacted a Patient and Their Family Inspira® Health Network A teenage patient was admitted to one of Inspira Health Network’s medical centers for evaluation and eventual surgery. Prior to the procedure, the patient was extremely apprehensive about anesthesia and was also very anxious about the procedure itself. The nurses on the unit informed the patient education team of the situation. When the education team visited the patient, we were told that even after receiving informational pamphlets and speaking with the physician there was still some distress about the anesthesia, surgical procedure and the outcomes. Our patient education team suggested that the patient and family members watch two short videos which were available via MDM’s PatientLogix™ interactive patient engagement system.

The patient and family watched the first video, a pediatric animated video specific to anesthesia. The patient giggled during the video and let our team know that it had helped a lot. The second video was specific to the upcoming procedure and elicited the same response as the first. We noticed immediately that the patient was calmer. Several hours later, when the patient education team visited the family in the surgery waiting room, they commented on how much of a difference watching the age-appropriate patient education videos made.
